Both games use the default mouse aim trackpad settings, with the sensitivity a notch or two higher than default. Playing Talos Principle then got me super comfortable, so all in all it took me a few days to feel comfortable and then a week later I was still improving. I started with Portal 2, and by the end was really confident but still not as great as I'd like to be. All I can suggest is that you keep trying till things click. Works brilliantly for all kinds of genres, but there is no doubt that there is a learning curve to it, and different people seem to have a different amount of time getting acclimated.

If you don't own the games, find equivalents that you do own. I think this is actually really good advice versus jumping head first into an FPS. This video goes over certain games to play in order to get used to the controller.
DARK SOULS 3 PC JOYSTICK SENSITIVITY TOO HIGH BLUETOOTH
Oh, and make it bluetooth so I don't need a dongle! Maybe I'm just too used to the Xbox and xbone controller. throw is too short of there isn't a feeling of tension building as they are pulled. That will make the controller feel heftier. I also agree it should have an internal battery, but ALSO support AA still. I'll have to just remember this note and adjust - thanks! I had no idea it was taking both into account. the overlay of the controller settings over in-game settings makes customization hard. This aspect of settings is probably what's throwing me off. I sat in training for a bit and then won my match against players, only noticing those small gripes. Quick chat in rocket league are way harder to do vs xbox controller and chiclet button placement can throw me off and camera control isn't as quick, but it's totally doable. It could also benefit from a built-in rechargeable battery, but AA batteries last so long in it, so it's no a big deal. My only real gripe with it is that the build quality of the controller isn't great. It's radically different, but in a good way. They're really powerful and pretty damn useful.

Try the new activator options (still in Steam beta, I think?). I feel it's better to lower it in the game, and raise it in the Steam Controller configuration screen. Play with sensitivity settings and see what you prefer. You're sure to find something that works for you. Always look at the custom configurations by the community. It's at least as good as an Xbox One controller in those games, imo. I also play Rocket League and The Witcher 3 with it regularly. It's the closest you can get to M&K and it's pretty darn close IMO. It's really great to aim with the (very precise) touchpad and correct with the gyro. I play Rainbow Six: Siege using a configuration that activates gyro when you look down the scope. I'd like to add my voice to my pad+gyro bros here.
